Dear Sir,
I recently read in one of your dailies how the Church services in New Amsterdam were rudely and disrespectfully obstructed by noise nuisances. I wish to state that this has occurred and continue to plague many parts of Georgetown and around Guyana.
During the holidays, I and many other families could not even hear our own voices within our homes. Persons within the community/village found it fitting to bring out their music boxes and played them loudly, continuously ignoring all the others around.
I personally knew of many people who called the Police Stations and asked for assistance and to this day none is forthcoming. The Ruimveldt Police Station falls within our jurisdiction. Despite several calls and pleas for some police intervention none was present.
I had some relatives that came from overseas and they had to leave early because of the noise was affecting them. I recall a few weeks back I called Ruimveldt Police Station with a similar complaint and a female officer told me I have to come in person and report the matter, very tragic.
I would like to suggest that some Senior member of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) educate the officers on the laws concerning noise nuisances because it seems like some of the Officers/Patrols are oblivious of such.
I also like to recommend that the GPF conduct and program and make available publicly the criteria for persons be granted permission to play music loudly. Mahendra
