Dear Editor,
The recent global summit in Barcelona that was attended by numerous leaders of the free world was a necessary and important step towards regaining the relevance of the United Nations. Currently, several key permanent members of the United Nations Security Council are engaged in actions that initiated with previous war games that have reduced the level of peace in the world. Instead of safeguarding and strengthening peace and cooperation, we are witnessing aggression, loss of life, and the pursuit of obtaining additional resources by force.
CRG believes that shared leadership and influence in the world can be achieved via the security council if its members continue to embrace prosperity through trade & cooperation, and the achievement of common goals for the betterment of mankind. The desire for supremacy and the lack of contentment with obtaining the resources needed for continued growth via fair trade practices do reduce the likelihood of continued world peace. Only by strengthening the influence of non-security member states via a restructuring of the veto vote process within the council, and by creating a joint buying power and trade mechanism amongst the non-permanent UN Security Council members will a shift in approach be achieved. Unfortunately, it has also become clear that within this weaker group a joint defence strategy needs to be established that includes countering the threat of atomic and nuclear arms. The balancing of power and influence within the world demands that such an urgent and important step be taken while the UN works on restructuring its security council to include a permanent seat for a union of non-superpowers.
Sincerely,
Mr. Jamil Changlee
