Following a Thanks Giving Celebration Service yesterday at a Tucville Playfield – venue that was once his hunting ground as a footballer for Former National Futsal Captain and Fruta Conquerors player Lester Michael Peters aka ‘Puppy’ was laid to rest yesterday.
A number of glowing tributes were paid to the former midfielder who died at the Georgetown Public Hospital after a brief period of illness on Wednesday October 5.
He was remembered as a hard working, disciplined and dedicated player who was never involved in an argument but always found the time to guide and be firm with the younger players of his long time club, Fruta Conquerors.

Familiarly known as ‘Puppy’ Peters had the distinction of being Guyana’s Captain at the Caribbean Football Union Futsal Finals in 2008 when Guyana went down to Suriname 7-3 in the 3rd place game; Trinidad and Tobago won the championship defeating Haiti 6-3 in the final. The Message of Hope was delivered by Pastor Raphael Jackman while the eulogy was done by Lambert Amsterdam. Musical renditions were also done by Abena and Joycelyn Rockcliffe.
Football teams from Sunburst Camptown, the Inter Guiana Games Squad and Peters’ home club Fruta Conquerors among others along with Administrators and the Managing Director of Guyana Beverage Inc. sponsors of Fruta Conquerors and a former employer of the deceased were on hand to give the late Lester Michael Peters aka ‘Puppy’ a rousing send-off.
An autographed football was presented to the Mother of Lester Peters from the Fruta Conquerors FC.
