The fourth Orthopaedic Technician Programme which is designed to provide the clinical skills necessary to care for Orthopaedic patients in acute and clinical settings is expected to be launched by the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) on Monday.
The programme is scheduled to run for nine months. There are 12 participants, one coming from Belize and the remaining being external trainees.
All participants are being sponsored by their respective agencies.
The course which combines theory and practical instructions, allows participants to become proficient in identification of the anatomical components of the musculoskeletal system, description of function of the musculoskeletal system, application of splints, casts and braces.
It also focuses on the documentation of care given and the preparation of patients for procedures and aftercare required, as well as being able to make appropriate emergency interventions, of and whenever necessary.
