(Kaieteur News) – A 19-year-old teacher told police officers on Wednesday that the marijuana they found in his car at Cullen, Essequibo Coast, Region Two, did not belong to him.
Police while conducting a cordon and search exercise in the area around 18:15 hrs. that day approached the teacher and asked to search him.
He consented and they found nothing illegal on him but when they searched his black Mazda car bearing registration number PAD 2574 which was parked short distance away from him, a bulky black plastic bag was found on the left-side rear passenger seat.
Police said the bag contained a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis was in the bag. The teacher was shown the bag containing the marijuana and informed that he is a suspect in trafficking the illegal substance.
He reportedly replied, “That is not mine. I left my car unlocked and went out and returned and sat on the chair where y’all found me.”
He was arrested. Police also found a Guyana Police Force (GPF) badge affixed to the driver’s side roof of the car during a further search.
When questioned about the GPF badge, the teacher reportedly said, “A police had hired one of my cars and forgot it inside, and I took it and put it in this car.”
Investigations are ongoing.
