GCA aims to stage grand semi-final round next weekend
The Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) will now play off the three remaining quarterfinals of the inaugural Queensway 50-overs cricket competition tomorrow at Everest, DCC and Bourda.
According to Chairman of the GCA Competition Shawn Massiah the three quarterfinal winners will join GNIC in the semi-finals which will be played next Saturday with the final being set for Sunday.
“We have not scheduled any cricket for Sunday…. we wanted a longer time to promote a really grand semi-final weekend and playing the Semis this Sunday would have been too short a period to do that.”
Ace Warriors is the only one of the four Second Division teams still in the running for the title since they have advanced to the quarterfinal because of two byes and an upset victory against Malteenoes Sports Club and tomorrow at Everest could see them advancing to the semi-finals.
DCC face Police at DCC, while GCC battle Transport Sports Club (TSC) at Bourda in the other quarterfinal games tomorrow.
The Georgetown Pitbulls team, which includes several of the City’s leading players, have advanced to the semi-finals of a tapeball competition to be played on Sunday but Massiah stressed that the GCA decision not to play the semi-finals on Sunday had nothing to do with the tapeball competition.
“Our reason for playing the semis next week Saturday is to give ourselves (GCA) an extra week to get everything in place for a great semi-final weekend in terms of venues, promotion and giving the teams which qualify tomorrow some extra preparation for the final-four stage of the tournament,” Massiah, who also play for TSC, informed Kaieteur Sport yesterday.
