“The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport is genuinely saddened by the unexpected passing of Guyana and West Indies Cricket Umpire Clyde Rory Duncan,” they said in a release.
Umpire Duncan, 57, died in Trinidad and Tobago, whilst under treatment for a medical condition.
Minister of Sport Dr. Frank Anthony expressed his regrets: “Guyana and West Indies cricket has just suffered yet another loss, this time of a dedicated, honest, knowledgeable and patriotic West Indian. Mr. Duncan was not merely an accomplished Umpire, but served cricket as an administrator in the local and regional Umpires Association and was extremely influential in the planning and execution of the Guyana leg of the ICC World Cup Tournament of 2007. Cricket has lost a giant. The Community has lost a stalwart and a friend.
Clyde Duncan was impeccable in deportment exemplary as the Secondary School Teacher he once was and proud to be a Vreed-en-Hoop West Bank man.
He umpired all forms of the game and imparted all the technical aspects of the game to players and administrators alike.
He was, truly selfless in terms of the Gentleman’s game he viewed cricket to be.
The Ministry of Sport hereby extends his condolences to his wife and four children, confident that he has left a lasting legacy in the sporting life of Guyana.”
