Dear Editor,
I am writing with reference to the Kaieteur Newspaper article dated June 23, 201, which appeared under the Freddie Kissoon Column captioned “Is the “white man” better than us?”
I have noted with a sigh of relief that Mr. Kissoon has finally come around to admitting that the issue of a large number of Taxpayers in queues, is not the fault of the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA), but with having to meet the demands of the Law to renew in excess of 80,000 Motor Vehicle Licences annually. For the current year it is projected that a record-breaking 94,000 licences are to be sold.
This state of affairs does test the nerve of the GRA staff and the patience of the general public. I want to commend Mr. Kissoon for suggesting that the sale of licence be a daily process and I wish to advise that for the while, that may be one of the possible solutions.
I must state that, the most challenging issue that besieges the GRA is that the public shows up on the last day to renew their licences.
Obviously, no system can operate with any level of efficiency when this occurs. Commissioner-General
