Some Lethem residents believe that governing bodies of the region are not taking safety and developmental issues in the communities as seriously as they should.
They say that an example of this is the fact that for almost a week, a utility pole was left leaning on power lines. One resident expressed fear that the lines will burst and land on parked or passing vehicles.

He explained that the Lethem Power Corporation office was notified and one of the officers was passing along the same route when villagers notified him about the issue.
According to the resident, the employee of the corporation promised to “come back right away”, but only returned later the following day.
Another major concern is the roadway which persons have to traverse regularly.
The issue is that large vehicles damage the roads and streets, leaving huge holes that are flooded during the rainy season as well.
In addition, passing trucks would often come into contact with telephone and electrical lines, sometimes even “pulling down the wires”.
Currently, there is a street in Lethem where the heavy rainfall, coupled with other circumstances caused the wires running along two posts to “hang almost to the ground”.
Residents are hoping that officials will rectify this matter soon.
