DEAR EDITOR,
These castles are eyesores. While I have lived abroad for many years, during this period
I have visited and spent a considerable amount of time visiting with friends who live in Republic Park.
On these visits, I have often wondered why the residents didn’t demand accountability from the Eccles Ramsburg NDC with respect to the lack of enforcement of building codes and the general unkempt conditions of roads, drains, trenches, and empty lots.
After all, the residents there do pay taxes.
As well, I have several friends in Republic Park who for years have been paying to weed and clean adjoining empty lots because the owners are allowed to renege on their responsibilities. Shouldn’t the NDC clean these lots and recover costs from the owners? As well, the disregard for rules can be seen in the building of structures on council reserve. Indeed, why was the owner of these castles allowed to flout the law for so many years? Why didn’t the NDC take action?
It would appear the poor management of the Eccles Ramsburg NDC contributed, in part, to this unfortunate set of circumstances. In any event, it is the employee and his employer who are responsible, directly and indirectly for the damages to the castle. Perhaps it would be everyone’s interest to complete the job – on both castles.
Residents living close to these monstrosities shouldn’t have to live in fear of thieves and vagrants who frequent these derelict buildings.
