Suspects in police custody over cutlass attack

Two persons are now in police custody following a brutal attack on a 29-year-old man, Kamla Crawford, who hails from Number 43 Village, Corentyne, Berbice. A police official told Kaieteur News that the suspects were caught on Thursday, last, and charges are to be made.
And doctors at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) are still trying to save Crawford’s life. The man was severely chopped across his body, reportedly by a man and his son, on Wednesday, last. His condition remains critical in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Kamla Crawford, called “Sonny” or “Cat eye”, was attacked alleged by the two men, after he rendered assistance to the father.
Kamla’s father, Peter Crawford, told Kaieteur News that he was in the savannah, when his wife called him and told him about the tragedy. He said that his son and the man rear cattle in the same area.
Crawford had stated that his two sons and the man and his son were in the backdam, when the father asked Kamla to help him across a trench by boat, since he cannot swim.
According to Crawford, Kamla helped the man across the trench. He said that the man’s son was already on the other side of the trench. Crawford added that the suspect’s son came up behind Kamla and dealt him several blows to the head with a piece of wood.
Crawford said that his son fell to the ground and the men started chopping him with cutlasses. Crawford indicated that when his younger son, Stephen tried to assist his brother, he too was set upon and he sustained injuries.
Crawford said that public-spirited persons, who were travelling in a minibus, interceded and stopped the men from attacking his sons.
