BK Int. Western Tigers humiliated Georgetown Football Club (GFC) 4-1 when play in the 3rd Annual Mackeson/Digicel Sweet Sixteen football tournament continued at the Buxton Community Centre Ground, Buxton East Coast Demerara Wednesday evening last.
Gavin Wilson netting a hat trick for the winners in the 3rd, 25th and 62nd minutes with Nedd Fraser on target in the 20th. Marlon Cole spared some blushes for the Georgetown Football Club when he stitched in their lone success in the 65th minute.
In the feature attraction Allister Deene scored in the 16th minute for Buxton Stars while Dennis Garrett equalized the situation for Grove Hi-Tech in the 73rd to send the game into extra time. Despite exciting duels in the first half of this period, neither team managed to break the deadlock, setting the stage for an exciting second half.
The two teams battled intensely for the most part and just when it appeared as though they would have to be separated by a penalty shootout, the two teams became involved in a goal scrimmage in front of the Grove Hi Tech goal that lasted for the better part of two minutes and culminated with a goal for Buxton Stars off the boot of Jolyon Fraser.
The ball had scarcely been placed in the centre before the shrill sound of the referee’s whistle sent the Buxton stars into celebration. The tournament continues next week with exciting matches to be announced in a subsequent issue.
