Up to press time yesterday police on the East Coast of Demerara were trying to locate a route 48 minibus and its driver after a fatal accident at Railway Line, Buxton.
Reports are that at around 16:30 hours yesterday 30-year-old father of two, Biko Akande Edwards of 63 Vigilance, East Coast Demerara was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital after he was struck down by a minibus in Buxton, in the vicinity of Brusche Dam.
The dead man’s mother Ruby Lewis said she was coming home from work when she received a call indicating that her son had been involved in a serious accident. The woman said by the time she reached to the location she was greeted with the news that her son had already died. Mrs. Lewis related that she was told her son was on his way home when he was struck from behind by a blue minibus bearing the route 48 zonal marking. The woman said that according to eyewitnesses, after the minibus struck her son, the driver made a quick exit from the scene without stopping to render assistance.
Meanwhile, according to residents of the area, the minibus appeared to have just left a mechanic shop as it had no front or back windscreen.
