Angry community accuses homeowner of killing teen
Electrified fence death…
Anger continues to rage among residents of Melanie Damishana on the East Coast of Demerara over the electrocution of 16-year-old Leandrew Davis.

The young man perished on Monday afternoon while holding on to an electrified fence in an effort to retrieve a football which had been kicked into a nearby yard from the Melanie playfield.
The owner of the yard is presently in police custody awaiting charges in relation to the incident.
Yesterday, angry residents lamented the callous nature of the person responsible for Davis’ death after listening and analyzing eyewitness reports of the incident.
From all appearances, the homeowner was reportedly aware that Davis and some of his colleagues were near the fence, seeking to retrieve their ball.
There were even suggestions that the homeowner unconcernedly switched on his electricity even as Davis and his friends were appealing to him to have their ball back.
Speaking to this newspaper yesterday, Cleveland English, one of Davis’s friends who was also involved in the football game, said that he was standing with Davis and another young boy near the fence calling out to occupants of the yard in which the ball was kicked when they saw the homeowner coming.
“We see he coming on a bicycle and we say ‘Mister please fuh we ball.’ He go upstairs and we see a light come on. We were holding onto the fence but we just loose it while Leandrew still hold on. We see Leandrew eye start rolling up and thought he bluffing. Then de man come down and we say ‘Look a man getting shock up’ and he say ‘Oh s**t’ and run back upstairs,” English recalled.
It is believed that the homeowner went back into his house and disconnected the current, since Davis who was pinned to the fence suddenly fell to the ground.
Zinc covers the windows of the Melanie Damishana house where the incident occurred after it was damaged by angry residents in the aftermath of Leandrew Davis’s electrocution.
According to the dead youth’s colleagues they actually thought that the homeowner would have assisted them in retrieving their football but instead their colleague was killed.
They insisted that they did not know that the fence was wired, although they have been using the nearby playfield for several years.
In the aftermath of the incident, scores of residents converged on the home and set about damaging the man’s property, forcing the police to deploy ranks for the entire night to prevent any further destruction. This was not before the residents overturned the man’s car which is now lodged at the Vigilance Police Station for safe keeping.
Over at the dead youth’s home, relatives were inconsolable as they reflected on what transpired Monday afternoon.
His sister, Cindy Ramsey, told Kaieteur News that she was at Mahaicony when she received the news of her brother’s death and she immediately travelled to Melanie.
She said that from what she was told, the homeowner appeared to be deliberate in his actions.
“My brother is no wild animal that you could just shock he like that,” Ramsey said.
Davis’s aunt, Desiree Davis, told Kaieteur News that she has already contacted his mother who is presently in the interior and is scheduled to travel to the city today.
“I could not tell her what really happened. I just told her to come home immediately, something happen to Leandrew,” Desiree Davis said.
Police continue to take statements from eyewitnesses and will be preparing a report which will be sent to the DPP for advice after a post mortem examination is performed on Davis’s remains today.
Meanwhile, relatives of the homeowner are appealing to the police for protection since they fear that the anger in the village could lead to dire consequences for them.
Already, several head of stock have been stolen from the property since the police removed from the scene and the homeowne’rs relatives fear that they could suffer more losses if things do not cool down soon.
