Guyana’s Jessica Stephenson proved that her increased training is yielding great results, when she finished second overall in Trinidad and Tobago’s National Long Course Age Group Championship during the 4 day Meet last weekend.
Swimming just 8 events out of a possible 16 races, Jessica successfully placed 2nd to T&T’s Kristin Julien with Theana Hay in a close third in one race.
Stephenson took home gold medals in all of her favourite breast stroke events of 50, 100 and 200m and was the only female breast stroker of any age to make the highly competitive Trinidad qualifying time for CISC, her times were the fastest in each breast stroke event for all age groups.
As part of her strength training, Jessica has been working on her freestyle in order to improve her stamina and strength and this paid off with Personal Best times (PB) and gold medals also in the 400m and 200m frees as well as a silver in her first 800m free and a bronze in the 100m free.
Stephenson is currently at “peak training” when times are not expected to drop, as her training is aimed to reach its potential for the CAC Games in July, where she is looking forward to again representing Guyana in all the breast stroke events in what will be her first all Senior Meet.
