History created as World title fight fixed for Princess Hotel June 5
History was made yesterday when BrisO Promotions boss, Seon Bristol and Manager of the Princess Hotel and Casino Mauharren Kulekci sealed the deal to stage a world title fight at the Poolside of the beautiful hotel yesterday.
The two men, following discussions, agreed to a deal to have the World Boxing Federation (WBF) World middleweight title fight between Guyanese ‘Deadly’ Denny Dalton and US-based Puerto Rican Hector Camacho Jr. staged at the leading venue on Saturday June 5.
Speaking to Kaieteur Sport, Promoter Seon Bristol disclosed that the original fight was fixed for the Foxwoods Resort and Casino in the United States on May 7 but Dalton was denied a US Visa to travel. As a consequence, Bristol informed Camacho, the son of the famous Hector Snr, who ruled the lightweight division in his heyday, of the developments and Camacho agreed to come to Guyana for the fight.
Camacho, a talented young boxer with an impressive record of 51 fights and 3 losses with 28 wins via the knockout route, will prove to be a stern test for Dalton. The Guyanese will have nothing to lose but all to gain and is presently preparing for an all out assault on his opponent, which promises fight fans much excitement.
This is the first fight of this magnitude being staged in Guyana for some time and the first fight for the Princess Hotel. Bristol noted that after the disappointment of the initial date being kept at Foxwoods, he came to Guyana and sought out the best possible venue that will lend a similar atmosphere as Foxwoods and the Princess topped the list. That initiated the discussions, which has been successful.
President of the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC) Peter Abdool was also present at and a part of the discussions. The organisation has by his presence has given its blessings to the staging of the fight and it sets Guyana on par with several other countries that utilise big international hotels to stage top class boxing.
The remainder of the card and other details of the June 5 event will be disclosed shortly.
