Dear Editor,
With great interest and satisfaction I learnt from a previous SN publication dated April 15, 2010 that talks were in the making with the Brazilian counterparts for local athletes having the opportunity of training in Brazil and such exposure should be beneficial to those selected.
Lyndon Wilson’s commentary in the SN dated April 17, 2010 was of interesting reading and I do agree that gradual improvement is made and nothing happens in an overnight process.
Athletes on the other hand have got to challenge themselves on an individual basis and have those competitive talents brought to the surface and be very proactive towards their competition especially if there is a desire to stand on a track and field podium at the Olympics or World Championships.
Take note, overseas US-based junior and uprising track star “Marlon Stoby” has been making some impressive performances and that’s another athletic soldier on his way. Indeed, it is a bit worrying that eventually he might be representing the US flag which is perfectly fine by me, but I only hope he remembers to inject his “starting point” when success surrounds him. This came from a KN publication dated April 4, 2010.
I must say that Digicel made another impressive decision to come forward and support the AAG’s under 23 meeting recently at the Police Sports Club Ground and I believe that talks are also on the way for GT&T to come onboard. Good. Two giants joining forces for one common cause.
Neil Reece, with your recent success in Trinidad with a gold and silver during the Cycling Festival, you just didn’t accomplish a fete for the local Cycling Federation of Guyana, yourself or The Golden Arrowhead, but you have stamped your mark with the competition you faced on a heads on basis and this is good. Set the bar for the “Tour de France” and if you do, it also means that you might very well have to relocate for training.
Alonzo Greaves is another cyclist with some great potential among others from reports in the dailies and I will keep saying this over and over, it’s only a matter of time before the Golden Arrowhead becomes a force to be reckoned with despite our small contingents to the high level meetings.
