Dear Editor,
I start this letter by congratulating President Bharrat Jagdeo, no not on his attainment of an Honorary Doctorate, from his Alma Mater, or for him racking up enough frequent flyer miles in the past months to qualify him for a free ticket to the uttermost part of the world.
I congratulate President Jagdeo on his administration policies that cause racism to take a back seat to cronyism and nepotism. No longer can Guyanese say it is only one particular race that is been marginalised or victimized in our beloved country.
The problems that affect the citizens in Linden are the same problems that affect the citizens in Lusignan. The complaints are the same in Belladrum as it is in Black Bush Polder.
As a matter of fact the cries of our people are the same from Charity to Crabwood Creek. Guyanese are suffering and are hurting for leadership they can look up to and aspire to. The lack of leadership in our country is creating a sense of hopelessness, especially among our young people.
Almost ever Guyanese feel that their only hope of living a productive life is beyond the shores of Guyana. So they leave in droves for Suriname, French Guiana, Trinidad, Barbados etc. where they are taken advantage of sometimes by employers and landlords.
Some of those that remain find themselves involved in all kinds of illegal activities to make ends meet, hence the crime situation in our country. Talk to these people and they will tell you that the lack of employment opportunities is the main reason for their state of hopelessness.
I believe that it is every Guyanese dream to live in a Guyana that is free and fair to all and is free from fear. Every Guyanese desire is to be able to provide for their loved ones and enjoy a country where equal opportunity, a god given right is respected by their government.
What we see in Guyana today is a situation where only those close to the Government are getting by without any day to day challenges. We are moving towards a general election in Guyana next year and the PPP will be selecting a candidate to replace Bharrat Jagdeo. I am hoping that those responsible for this process would take the party’s founding principles and Dr Jagan’s vision into consideration when they select a candidate. We need a person that can reach out to all races, all people of Guyana. We need a person who can give us hope again, a person who can inspire especially our young people to stand for what is rite. We need a candidate with strong family values so that government polices would once again be in the best interest of families.
I just need to remind our Guyanese that change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the change we seek.
We can all make a difference by saying to our leaders loud and clear that we need a change in direction. I would continue my fight in the PPP to bring about a change from within our party. I still believe that Bharrat Jagdeo and his cronies has hijacked our party and has taken it off course. I believe that the Jaganites would soon say enough is enough and return our party to the working class people of Guyana where it belongs.
