Confident ahead of today’s ‘Race Meeting’
By Edison Jefford
Grass Track Championship leader in the professional category, Andy Rajkarran made his pitch yesterday to have all the other possible hopefuls turn out so that he can establish his place as one of the best Dirt Bike riders in Guyana.
The best riders will vie for supremacy in the Championships Series at the Mecca of Grass Track racing, the Ogle Community Centre Ground when the Banks DIH/De Ambassadors Race Meeting commences today at 12pm with 12 races.
Rajkarran completely smoked the field at the two previous meetings at Hampton Court in Essequibo and at the Port Mourant Turf Club in December. His aim is to continue his run at the final race meeting of the three-race series today.
“I am going out to dominate again but I don’t want to say too much. I want to leave most of the talking for tomorrow (today).
I will do something special there at Ogle,” Rajkarran told Kaieteur Sport yesterday ahead of the meeting.
The top biker said that he enjoyed the practice session on Friday and from the indications, the ground seems to be in favourable conditions. Another practice session was scheduled for yesterday afternoon before a racers’ briefing. Rajkarran informed that his bike is working perfectly and does not expect any mechanical problems today. “Preparation was good and my bike is set up properly. I want all the best riders to come out but I don’t know if they will,” he said.
The leader of the professional ‘Grass Track’ category called out Carlos Rodrigues, Vassie Barry and Charlie Henry, unintentionally omitting his rival Andrew Wong, who is behind him on the points’ table before the Grande Finale.
In addition to Rajkarran’s dominance, Junior Da Silva had completely left his challengers in the shadows in the novices’ category and holds a clear lead that can be unassailable on the grounds that he has no major hiccups today.
The teenage sensation will be going all out complete an unblemished record. Da Silva has not yet dropped a race and even if he does so today, his lead is of such that it would do no major damage to the biker’s overall position in the series.
Apart from the riders that Rajkarran called out, his brother, Raj Rajkarran, Alvin Balgobin, Dave Gangadin and Terrence Clarke are to also feature on the day that the Hall of Fame of local Grass Track racing will be launched.
The initial four inductees will be Victor Pires, Keith Ramnarine, Brian McIntosh and the still competitive Clarke. Professional riders get $10,000 for first place finish, $6,000 for second and $4,000 for third. Novices Riders pocket $6,000, $4,000 and $3,000 respectively.
Regal Stationery and Computer Centre, Ray Auto Spares, Guyadin Construction, Andrew Arts, BM Soat Auto Sales, Full Works Motor Spares, RRT Enterprise, Crazy Auto Work, Builders Lumber Yard, Keith Ramnarine, Swiss House Cambio and Five Star Appliances are among the major sponsors of the race meeting.
