Booster for youths – Coach Millington

“This victory was well worth the wait and it has come at the right occasion.” Is the view of President of the BK International Western Tigers Football Club Gordon Gilhuys who spoke with Kaieteur Sport following their winning of the 20th Kashif and Shanghai Football tournament on New Year’s night.
The tournament commenced in historic fashion with the visit of the World’s greatest player King Pele as Special Guest of Honour and also ended in historic style with Western Tigers claiming their first ever championship win.
Gilhuys sums up the win as development for the club. “My own view is that this win means development for us and more so our youths. Our boys were a committed and disciplined unit and stuck to the task at hand in an admirable way. They have all worked hard and deserve to enjoy every moment of their success.”
Commenting briefly on their opponents, Alpha United, Gilhuys said that it proves Alpha can be beaten as long as their opponents are focused.
Equally ecstatic with the win is Head Coach Cornel Millington who has finally been able to taste Kashif and Shanghai victory having lost the 1995/1996 final to Beacon when he was coach of Thomas United.
The highly religious Millington disclosed that his Pastor, Raphael Messiah along with a number of Assistant Pastors and members of the First Assembly of God church attended the game and were praying all along for Western Tigers.
In an earlier story carried by this newspaper, Millington had stated that Western Tigers is a praying team and their prayers were surely answered by the Master above.
“This win came at the right time and all praise and thanks to God for making this possible for us. My firm belief is that it will serve as a booster and motivator for all the youths in West.
The mothers and fathers in the community have always been supportive by sending their kids out to play and this is a great reward for their efforts over the years.”
Millington said that his team will continue to train and work hard and it is now consolidation time for the club which will now focus on winning the Cellink Premier League, organized by the Georgetown Football Association.
“But first we will aim to win the Mayor’s birthday seven-a-side competition which will resume sometime soon.”
