Dear Editor,
December 3rd 2008 is remembered as we observe this first anniversary of the brutal murder of our colleague Feisal Feroze ‘Robert’ Ali, and we, the members of the NFA renew the call for justice and closure for the family.
The continuity of the good that Shakespeare wrote of may be “interred with his bones” but for as long as people have memories the good deeds that Feisal Ali performed will live on.
Never was a hungry soul, young or old ever turned away from his door, even a rainy night when he had to light the stove just to make coffee for a wet and hapless youth. A $100 was always available to rescue some neighbour. At times of emergency he was even prepared to go to the ATM regardless of the hour of day or night.
It seems he was driven by the urge to serve his people. Fire, breakage come what disaster, he always seemed able to provide a team of carpenters and tradesmen almost overnight.
He made it a cardinal principle to visit the bereaved and to attend funerals of those even of passing acquaintance.
He was versed in the Koran, the Gita and other Hindu holy books as well as the bible. The good elements of these religions he embodied and practiced. His neighbours readily attest to this.
His political and social instincts were sharp. He was committed to improving the lot of his fellow Guyanese. He was the first to declare that racism is a major hindrance to the development of a just and humane society and without losing pride and dignity in his own race, was always the first to volunteer to make whatever sacrifice was needed to rescue anyone of any race.
His work on National Election day of 2006 in which he spent the entire day addressing the problems of many voters, fearlessly objecting to any irregularities only to see his house attacked that evening and his life threatened was a great example of courage and unselfish service to his people.
His file has been returned from the Director of Public Prosecutors. It will now join the many cold cases of Guyana, but for us, Feisal the humanist will never be forgotten.
We the members of National Front Alliance renew our call for those who may know about his execution to go to the police. We encourage the investigators not to give up.
To the family we express solidarity and pledge continued support. Long live our brother Feisal.
