Dear Editor,
I wish to refer to misrepresentation in Kaieteur News, Thursday 29 October.
I was quoted as saying that the poppy is a white flower, but it is red to represent the blood that stained the flowers on the battle field of Flanders Field during the First World War.
I never said that, I never referred to the colour of the poppy. Everyone knows that the poppy is red. I gave copies of my script to the media representatives present. The origin of the poppy as a symbol of remembrance is well publicised.
Canadian Captain John Mc Crae looked out at the poppies in bloom on Flanders Field The red colour reminded him of the blood lost on that very ground and inspired him to write his now famous poem – In Flanders Field.
This misquote in your article is personally embarrassing. I would be grateful if you could publish this letter Colonel (ret) Carl B Morgan, President- Guyana Legion
