All Stars defeated Daredevils by 6 wickets to win the final of the Reyaz Prahalad 15 overs softball cricket competition played on Saturday at the Wakenaam Community Centre Ground in Good Success.
Daredevils batted first and were bowled out for 98 in 13.3 overs. Richie Persaud 18, Tamesh Persaud 18 and Wazir Khan 17 were their main run scorers as Jaggernauth Manbodh captured 3-19 and Mankad Dinban 2-19 for All Stars who won the game in 11 overs ending on 99 for 4. Roopnarine Persaud led with 54 while Abdool Salim supported with 27 as Vinood Ramadeen grabbed 2-19 in a losing cause for Daredevils.
All Stars took the winning trophy while Daredevils took the runner-up prize.
Jaggernauth Manbodh was the competition’s most valuable player while, Roopnarine Persaud took the prize for the leading batsman and Gurnauth Khemraj the best bowler award.
At the presentation ceremony, overseas based Guyanese Reyaz Prahalad, a former Essequibo U-15 player and a member of the Sans Souci Jaguars S.S. said he was pleased to be associated with cricket on Wakenaam once again and pledged to support the clubs on the 18 square mile island. (Zaheer Mohamed)
