Digicel on board for Norman Singh TC horserace meet
Digicel has come on board with the Norman Singh Turf Club, sponsoring the 3 year old classic when the organisation stages their one-day horserace meet on Sunday at their No. 6 West Coast Berbice racetrack.
Digicel, who has supported sports in a major way throughout Guyana and the region, joins Banks DIH who has taken charge of the main event, the C class and lower contest. Other sponsors on board include Republic Bank (G class), Imperial Manufactures and Builders Lumber Yard (unclassified division 1&2), Jumbo Jet Auto Sales, BK International and Rohit Lumber Yard (F class and lower).
Over $3.5M are at stake in this meet which will have two feature events, the C class and 3 year old classic. These races have attracted the cream of the country’s racehorses and much excitement is anticipated.
Owners and trainers have been putting their charges through their paces and judging form the gallops in practice, fans will get their money’s worth.
Organising Secretary Compton Sancho disclosed that Mrs. L. Crawford’s 3 year old horse Night Crescendo looked impressive during practice at Alness on the Corentyne. This horse had beaten Top of the Line, Sweet Romance and Zip pa de doo dah a few weeks ago and a grand rematch is anticipated.
Top of the Line owned by Nazrudeen Mohamed of the Jumbo Jet Stables and Zip pa de doo dah owned by Videshwar Chattergoon did several eye catching gallops over four furlongs, which prompted the trainer of the latter horse to say the animal is ready for Sunday’s contest. Jumbo Jet’s newcomer Rock the Riches was also impressive.
Colin Elcock’s chestnut The Message has also been impressive during training runs and that spells trouble for the other C class horses.
Horses from the Custom Racing Stables, which include Sweet Carmel, The Gap, Laura Lee in Flight and Sir Balajee, were also sounding serious warnings during sessions at the No.6 Racetrack.
Mr. L. Robertson inform bay filly Bad News had several excellent gallops and indeed spells bad news for its opponents. Up at Port Mourant Chris Jagdeo’s Great Memories, Fresh Prospect and Matterazi were involved in some brisk canters and gallops and will be a force to reckon with come race day. In the city R. Fraser’s Rum till I die has also been looking good during workouts.
The track at No.6 is reported to be in excellent condition and an entertaining day of horseracing is expected.
