To avoid getting into legal trouble, I will not make a definitive statement on the Kwame Mc Coy incident. I have heard the tape. The voice sounds like Mr. Mc Coy. Mr. Mc Coy says that it’s not his voice. At this stage, we don’t know what will emerge.
But the allegations against Mr. Mc Coy brings into sharp focus the long, tall tale of the nasty side of PPP politics for which Mr. Mc Coy should not bear the burden of condemnation alone.
I gave a talk to the Guyana Historical Society and during question time a group of Bishops High School students asked to identify areas of the exercise of power that are worse under the present regime than when Mr. Burnham reigned.
I pointed to a number of examples and cited unabated sexual rascality. This is a dimension of politics under the present PPP Government that is unheard of in these parts of the world.
The PNC under Burnham and Hoyte would never, I repeat never have tolerated their top officials’ involvement in brutal sexual misconduct as we have seen the past six years with PPP Big Ones. I will avoid using nomenclatures like Permanent Secretaries, Cabinet Ministers, Board Chairmen. I would use the description, “PPP Big One.”
A lot of PPP Big Ones have been engaged in sexual perversities including sexual molestation and not only have they escaped prosecution, demotion or castigation, they have in fact gone higher up the ladder of authority.
It should be noted that Mr. Jagdeo, like the rest of the nation, knew about the behaviour of Mr. McCoy before Mr. Jagdeo assigned him a close working relationship within his office because he has been in the news many times for the wrong reasons. Twice the newspapers carried stories of police intervention with Mr. McCoy.
One episode involved the use of a gun. Below are examples of the encouragement of sexual miasma under the PPP. One controversy took place at the Mirror newspaper and it involved the cousin of a well-known name in journalism.
Mrs. Jagan was asked to discipline the offender. But instead she gave the young girl a tempestuous lecture in realpolitik.
She was warned that publication of such incidents could harm the Government and that the Government’s enemies could use it to bring down the PPP.
The victim never mentioned race but I am sure the way Mrs. Jagan put it to the young lady, the subliminal message caught on. The victim left the employment of the New Guyana Company, the owner of the Mirror newspaper and her molester remained. He was a PPP special boy.
Strangely enough another of Mrs. Jagan’s protégés got caught in predatory sex. The television newscast Prime News did some excellent work in exposing this sexual hunter. He was asked by a Ministry of Education employee to take her 14-year-old daughter home after a PPP event on Main Street. He took her to his house and attempted to ravish her. Mrs. Jagan moved quickly to protect one of her golden boys.
She had a lot of sympathy for him because in the seventies his sister was raped by a high-profile PPP activist. The mother was paid off and that was the end of the sexual assault incident.
An employee had a tape of a serial molester demanding sex. A former Minister of the Government who was a Minister then, handed over the tape to PPP leaders. This man cannot help himself. The entire hierarchy of the PPP knows about his sexual pathology. But they keep shifting him from one top spot to the other. He continues in high office.
At the Diamond congress of the PPP last year, he was a speaker from the floor. I have absolutely no doubt that this serial stalker continues to extract sexual favours from helpless victims.
Then there was the case of a professional who was about to enter the corridors of power. He beat up his lover in his office and kicked her down the steps. She went to the police but he was about to become a PPP Big One. He lives on to beat up more women. Only this time, he has more power.
A young secretary to a very, very well placed PPP Big One who likes to preach the word of God killed herself. One week before she took her life she told me how sexually abused she was in the three-year relationship. I saw this so-called man of God at the ceremony in which Warwick University awarded an honorary doctorate to Dr Yesu Persaud. He looked at me and for a moment I wanted to hurt him.
I confess; I wanted to hurt him.
