Jermaine Anderson, 34, of Albouystown, Georgetown, was placed on $75,000 bail yesterday when he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson to answer a charge of break and enter and larceny.
It is alleged that on September 18, last, the accused broke and entered the storage bond of Ray Rahaman and stole car parts totalling $350,000.
Anderson pleaded not guilty and told the court that he is a scrap iron worker.
“When I was returning from Gafoors I saw some scrap iron on de road by D.D.L side. I pick it up and two men come and lash me cross me nose with a piece of wood and carry me to the business owner and call the police”.
However, the prosecutors told the court that Rahaman had secured his bond and later found it open. The said day Rahaman reportedly saw the defendant taking away the items in a car. He raised an alarm as the car drove away. The accused was later apprehended.
The accused is expected to return to court on October 21.
