At last Saturday night’s Biker’s Fest in the National Park an alleged chain snatcher was nabbed by police after a report was made.
It is alleged that Gavin Charles stole Marc Hersting’s gold chain valued at $200,000. He pleaded not guilty.
The Police Prosecutor said that Charles, who is known to the courts, on the night in question, approached the virtual complainant and grabbed the chain from his neck.
As he ran away from the scene of the crime, Hersting raised an alarm. The accused was subsequently apprehended by police, with the jewellery still on his person.
He yesterday appeared before Magistrate Priya Beharry.
In an unexpected twist, however, the virtual complainant in the matter, Marc Hersting, told the court that he did not want the matter to go any further, saying that he did not want to be ‘distracted’. Hersting was made to pay the court $10,000 cost for wasting the court’s time, and the matter was dismissed.
