Sizzling action anticipated at Martial Arts tourney

The Guyana Harpy Eagle Martial Arts Academy (GHEMAA) will stage its 3rd annual ‘Exhibiting the Arts,’ Martial Arts Tournament, at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH), on Sunday August 2 and the organisers are promising a day filled with excitement.
Consequently, officials would be conducting seminars on the 4th and 5th August at the Plaisance Community Centre Ground with an aim of lifting the standards of the sport, while exposing participants to the use of weapons.
President of the GHEMAA, Sensei, Troy Bobb, visited Kaieteur News yesterday afternoon, accompanied by Master John Prescod, who is also the Director of Free Style Fighting Arts Federation (an organisation that encompasses the activities of martial arts affiliates in Guyana and Barbados) and Junior Grandmaster, Professor Christopher Norville.
Bobb explained that the primary aim of the function is to foster regional cohesiveness among Martial Artists, in an atmosphere of cordiality.
He further disclosed that subsequent to Sunday’s activities, organisers would convene on Friday 7 at the Cheddi Jagan Research Centre to induct affiliates into a Hall of Fame. Persons targeted for induction would be drawn from among those that would have rendered yeoman service to the sport over the years. These individuals will also be tangibly awarded.
Meanwhile, the tournament at the CASH gets underway at 10:00hrs and spectators would be treated to sparring exhibitions among some of the best martial artists. There would also be Katas and Taekwondo exhibitions. Fans would also be treated to several novelty events that include pushups and sit-ups among others. Entrance fees are a nominal $500 for adults and $300 for children.
