Third Annual Guyana Cup Race Meet fixed for Rising Sun August 16
Over $6.5 million in cash and prizes have been made available for the third annual running of the Guyana Cup horse race meeting, which will be held on Sunday August 16, at the Rising Sun Turf Club, West Coast Berbice, compliments of Mr. Nazarudeen Mohammed of the Jumbo Jet Auto Sales and racing stables.
Apart from the whopping amount of money available, there are also six Motor Scooters available for outstanding performers.
Eight races are carded for the day, including a number of feature events, which will be highlighted by the clash of the champions in the B& Lower category. The other top races on the day are the Three-year-old Open featuring Guyana and West Indian bred horses, the E & Lower category and the Two-Year-Old Open also featuring Guyana and West Indies bred animals.
The main feature B & Lower 1400 showdown has a total stake of $1,875,000 with the winner pocketing a massive one $1million, while $500,000 will go to the second place finisher. The third and fourth places will collect $250,000 and $125,000 respectively.
The Three-year-Old horses, battle over a similar 1400m distance for a purse of $600,000.
The horses contesting the rarely run E and lower 1400m event will compete for a first prize of $500,000.
The Two-Year-Old open gallop will be run over 1100m with $400,000 for the winner.
The ‘G’ and Lower first prize is $200,000 with the horses covering 1400m. The ‘I’ and Lower winning stake is set at $160,000 over 1100m. The J and K division horses will battle for $140,000, while the L class horses will sprint over a distance of 1400m for a $100,000 purse.
Entries close on Sunday August 9. The six motor scooters will be up for the taking and will be presented to the Champion Jockey, Champion Trainer, Champion Owner, and the winners in the ‘B’, Three and Two-years-old events.
