GCF to stage rapid chess tourney Sunday
The Guyana Chess Federation will host a rapid chess tournament on Sunday, at the YMCA, Thomas Lands.
The tournament is sponsored by Jumbo Jet Auto Sales and Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports.
The format of the tournament is a Swiss system and consists of nine rounds. Registration starts at 9:30 am, with the first round commencing at 10:00 am sharp. A time control of 15 minutes is allotted per player.
A rapid tournament is where all the allotted moves must be completed between 15-60 minutes. It is not compulsory for players to record their moves.
A registration fee of $500 will be charged per participant. For more information players can contact Tournament Director Irshad Mohamed on telephone #664-1650. Players are asked to bring along their chess sets and clocks.
