Fifty-one year-old John Heywood, of East Ruimveldt Housing Scheme, was yesterday placed on $75,000 bail by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, when he appeared to answer a forgery charge. It is alleged that the accused between May 3, 2005 and June 6, 2005 conspired with person or persons unknown to forged one power of attorney and affidavit of owner purporting to show that it was signed by Walter Stewart.
According to his attorney, her client is self employed as a bottle reseller, and is a father of seven.
The lawyer further told the court that the police have been investigating this particular matter for the past year, and still there was no advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions on the charge.
The lawyer further noted that the virtual complainant is the defendant’s father. Heywood’s lawyer explained that he was initially placed on $20,000 station bail and was reporting to the police.
Police Prosecutor Seetaram did not oppose bail and the accused is expected to make another court appearance on June 30.
