Dear Editor,
I salute Freddie Kissoon (Kaieteur News Mar 30) for writing he “has no regrets at the consequences (being dropped as a columnist) he suffered for his outspokenness” (criticising other people, I suppose) …adding, “I believe people should speak their minds” (I hope not unjustly attacking others).
I totally agree with the daily columnist that “society can only be better for the knowledge that comes out of the frank views people express”.
But I wonder if Freddie paid heed to what he penned.
If Freddie truly believes his statement that one should be frank and open in expressing one’s views, how come he threatened to sue Tony Vieira and C.N Sharma if “they uttered one word about him”.
Freddie should not seek to censure the men with a threat of legal action.
Let them enjoy unfettered freedom of expression as Freddie does.
If it is okay for Freddie to pen odious, unconfirmed, unsubstantiated comments about others, then he should not get vex when others “repay” him.
We should not stifle the views of Vieira and Sharma. Their views (about Freddie and others) are also important to society.
