Demerara Oxygen Company Limited (DOCOL) has provided assistance to the Ruimveldt Children Home and Care Centre (RCHCC) in the form of medical oxygen to be used for children at the Centre who suffer emergency respiratory conditions.
Dave Sharma, Brand Manager of DOCOL, said that his company was approached by the RCHCC for assistance because of the high cost of medical oxygen and the company offered to help.
The RCHCC is a non-governmental organisation that caters for orphaned and vulnerable children, particularly those affected or infected by HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus), at its Centre at Freeman Street in East La Penitence.
Sharma said that DOCOL presented the Centre with a full cylinder of medical oxygen and required fittings such as the flow meter and regulator. The company has further undertaken to refill the cylinder whenever the need arises.
Jennifer Babb, Administrator Assistant at the Centre thanked DOCOL for responding to the Centre’s need.
Eighteen children are currently housed at the RCHCC, which was founded in 2003 by Pastors Marva and Ivan Williams who were inspired by the story of an HIV-infected street child, Akeem.
Akeem died at the age of seven years but his tragic story became the impetus for the local hospital to open a ward for children infected with HIV and accommodation to meet the needs of orphaned and vulnerable children, particularly those infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS.
Also present at the ceremony were Overseas Home Care Specialist and Volunteer Angie Hemric, Nurse Vanessa Johnson and Mr. Micaiah Sukhu, Customer Service Representative from DOCOL.
