The Western Tigers Football Club which is sponsored by BK International is calling for help to repair a dilapidated section of the fence that surrounds their Community ground.
Speaking with Kaieteur Sport, Club President Gordon Gilhuys disclosed that the fence was originally done by funds made available by the President’s Youth Choice Initiative Programme, which was responsible for rehabilitating numerous grounds and building of Community Centers around Guyana.
The Tucville ground which is controlled by Fruta Conquerors as well as the Camptown ground under the control of Sunburst Camptown F.C are two facilities that have benefitted from the President’s Youth Choice Initiative Programme.
Gilhuys stated that the Club which is community based has been expending resources from the little that they have to upkeep the ground but they can no longer afford to do same.
He also disclosed that the club had written letters to Minister of Local Government, Mayor and Head of the Presidential Secretariat seeking assistance to refurbish and maintain the facility but has not received any responses to date. Letters were dispatched about three weeks ago.

Gilhuys is of the view that the fence was not constructed properly since it was trapped from inside and not outside.
“What actually took it down was the breeze blowing from east to west. Don’t mind how we try to maintain the ground with our funds, cattle continues to invade and damage the surface.”
At the moment, the ground is not usable by the team but is used for scrubby ball by members of the community.
“We wrote these persons seeking help to put up back the fence and assist with the maintenance of the ground because this is the only facility the community has and people need to use it. It is not only utilised by the football club, but little children also come out to be involved in healthy activity which helps them to spend their play time wisely.”
BK International, Gilhuys disclosed, had graded and leveled the ground late last year but the rainy season was not helpful in maintaining that.
“At present a lot of work is needed to bring it to a proper level for us to use it.”
