Essequibo Islands defeated Essequibo Coast and Pomeroon and West Coast Demerara by 8 runs and 2 wickets respectively in the Ministry of Education, Guyana Teachers Union, National Sports Commission and the Guyana Cricket Board national schools under-15 limited overs cricket competition.
Last Monday at the Anna Regina centre ground the islanders batted first and made 76 all out in 18 overs. S. Sylvester top scored with 34 while Ricardo Adams supported with 24 as Vijay Surujpaul snatched 4-20 and Gary Green 2-21.
Essequibo Coast and Pomeroon in reply were routed for 68 in 22 overs. Mickel Garraway made 14 while Sylvester Adams and Moin Khan took two wickets each for the winners.
On Tuesday at the Cornelia Ida ground on the West Coast of Demerara, the home team took first strike and were all out for 71 in 34.3 overs with T. Bobb being the only batsman to reach double figures with 23. Seenarine Oudit captured 4-14 from 5.3 overs.
Essequibo Islands, whose players are mainly from Wakenaam and Leguan, responded with 72-8 in 29.2 overs. Tatteshwar Chetram made 14 and Ricardo Adams 10 as Bobb returned with the ball to bag 4-16 off 8 overs.
The islanders now have two victories from 2 games so far in the competition.
