Osborne is best batsman for Sans Souci SC last year
Essequibo wicketkeeper batsman Wayne Osborne took the best batsman of the year award when the Sans Souci Sports Club held its 2008 awards ceremony at the Essequibo Islands’ Secondary School recently in Wakenaam.

Osborne, who captained Wakenaam in the Busta Festival and the Gafoor’s 20/20 first division competitions in 2008, scored 396 runs during the last season.

Khemraj with 23 wickets took the best bowler’s trophy while all rounder Roopnarine Persaud, who represented Essequibo in last year’s Carib/Pepsi inter county 20/20 competition, collected the best allrounder prize. Persaud scored 293 runs and took 21 wickets in the last season.
Fifteen year old batsman Seon Venture collected the most disciplined player award while former Guyana U-15 player Oyono Sampson, who also represented Essequibo in last year’s inter county 20/20 tournament, took the prize for the most improved player. He took 15 wickets and made 222 runs.
Jaggernauth Manbodh also received a trophy for showing improvement in 2008, while the club’s former opening batsman Hydar Ali, who is now an umpire on the island, was honoured for his contribution towards the club.
Guest speaker Nadir Mustakeen urged the players to continue to train hard and take the game seriously while the club’s president Sheik Ahmad talked about their achievement in 2008.
The club’s captain Roopnarine Persaud thanked the fans for supporting them throughout the past year and said the club will try their best to improve their performance in 2009, while coach Zaheer Mohamed, who also umpires in first division matches in Essequibo, talked about the importance of discipline and fitness.
Sans Souci won the R&R Thomas and Cellink 20/20 competitions in 2008.
