Adequate flights for Xmas – Tourism Minister
With the Christmas season and the peak travel season almost upon Guyana, the Minister of Tourism, Manniram Prashad, has affirmed that there will be an adequate number of flights in and out of Guyana.
Delta Airlines and Caribbean Airlines, both of which already fly to Guyana, have apparently promised additional flights to bolster those between Guyana, Trinidad and North America.
The Minister explained that Delta has apparently requested statistics from previous years, so as to gauge exactly how many additional flights would be required.
The Minister noted that Sky Services, a new airline, is supposed to begin flying to Guyana for the Christmas season. But this has some persons apprehensive, after Zoom Airlines declared bankruptcy in August, and left numerous passengers stranded here.
Zoom was one of those chartered flights that operated during the peak season.
Added to this trepidation is the fact that the airlines flying to Guyana have been plagued by overbooking. Nonetheless, the Minister assured that there would be enough flights to cope with the high demand the Christmas season brings with it.
