The Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC) is set to launch the Basil Butcher Trust Fund (BBTF) on Sunday November 16 at the St. Francis Annex Restaurant, Rose Hall Town Corentyne.
The BBTF will be financed by the former West Indies batting star Basil Butcher and the RHTY&SC and its main aim will be to nurture new talent in the county as well as assist clubs.
Former West Indies captain Deryck Murray has accepted an invitation from the RHTY&SC to be the guest speaker at the event and is expected to be Guyana for three days from November 15.
During his visit, Murray would join his former teammate Butcher in an evening of the stars programme where they would speak to young cricketers on the importance of discipline. The duo would also be involved in the launching of an annual Butcher/Murray Tribute 20/20 match between Berbice and Demerara.
The match would be played at the Rose Hall Canje ground with the winning team receiving $100,000 and the Murray/Butcher trophy.
Ansa Mc Al is the sponsor of the match which will see both former stars donning cricket gear.
Meanwhile, twelve under-15 cricketers drawn from the first division clubs in Berbice will receive a financial grant and educational materials worth $20,000 each, while eleven first division clubs – West Berbice, Blairmont, Bermine, Police, Young Warriors, Rose Hall Canje, Albion, Port Mourant, Kildonan, Scottsburg and Skeldon will receive $200,000 worth of cricket balls to assist them in their development projects.
They will also receive a total of $ 440,000 worth of educational and hygiene kits.
