Alika Morgan, Cleveland Forde and Kelvin Johnson turned in good performances at the University of the West Indies half marathon held in Trinidad yesterday.
According to reports from Leslie Black, Trainer of Morgan and Johnson and also a one-time trainer of Forde, Morgan won the female category in a time of 1 hour 27 minutes, beating Sherma Lasando of Trinidad and Tobago.
Forde claimed the second spot in 1 hour 8 minutes 25 seconds behind winner Nicholas Kierono of Uganda (1:5.35). Pamanos Ballantyne (1:8.53) placed third and St Lucia’s Zephernus Joseph was fourth.
Johnson finished seventh overall, but won the 20-29 age group.
Morgan and Forde are coming off top performances in the South American races held in Suriname and Guyana last month.
According to Black, this was a good win for Morgan in this her third half marathon. He expressed pleasure at her continued outstanding showing and improvement as a distance runner. Both Morgan and Johnson were sponsored by their trainer to compete in this event.
