Western Tigers end 1st round at the top, whip Houston 4-0
B.K International Western Tigers have ended the first-round of the Banks Beer / Georgetown Football Association division one league in pole position after whipping Houston Stars in their final first round match at Thirst Park on Wednesday night, 4-0.
Captain Delon Fraser opened their account in the 17th minute which started the decline for the Houston Stars, who lost their fourth match of the league and are out of the top four going into round two. The other teams out are Thomas United, Northern Rangers and University of Guyana.
The other players inking their names on the score sheet for Western Tigers were Maxwell Pellew (32), Travis Best (56) and Colin Nelson three minutes later.
There was no doubt in anyone’s mind as to who the winner of the match-up would have been but it was just a matter of how many goals would have been scored. Western, relegated from the Premier League blasted a total of 26 goals in their 7 matches. Their only tough fight would have come in the Flamingo clash which was abandoned due to acts of indiscipline.
Second round action featuring the top four teams, Western Tigers, Flamingo, Beacons and Black Pearl will commence shortly and the battles are expected to be fierce and keen since the top two teams will earn their place in the Premier League ranks for the 2009 season.
Santos and Uprising will also be coming down from the Premier League to join their counterparts in the division one arena.
