Race walking has risen to new heights, attracting participants from all over Guyana. The Cavaliers Sports and Tour Club will stage a grand race walk event dubbed “Dawn of a New Era” on Saturday October 4 around the Soesdyke Circuit starting at 06:30hrs.
On Sunday October 5 walkers from the ancient county will contest for honours in the second part of the “Dawn of a New Era” 6 laps affair, this time around the inner circuit of the National Park, under the auspices of the Cavaliers Sports and Tour Club.
National race walk champion, Rudolph Mitchell is highly favoured to win this race. Should he come out victorious it will be his 80th consecutive victory, a feat worthy of the local history books.
However, a number of rising stars will be aiming to dethrone Mitchell and he will find the going a little tougher.
The walkers will contest several categories including male juniors and seniors, female seniors, juveniles and veterans.
Trophies, medals and other prizes will be at stake for the first three finishers in each category.
Walkers are urged to assemble at the respective starting points at least half an hour before the scheduled start.
