DEAR EDITOR,
After that old, two-storeyed building which was located at Smyth and Hadfield Streets, (Georgetown) toppled, nearly two weeks ago, it is pathetic to see the many occupants who once lived therein have no immediate alternative housing.
“The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of Man hath nowhere to lay his head” Matthew 8:20 But this is unbelievable when one population is small, our land space vast, and our sprawling forest abounds with a variety of lumber ideal for the construction of houses.
This old structure had been gradually tilting until, at last, it could no longer withstand the ravages of time, and eventually it fell.
The Ministry of Housing should give urgent priority to this uncomfortable situation. This plight could, or might, have been averted had we exercised one of our essential national mottos: “Preparedness.” George Carrington
