Father’s Day Walk set for today in Berbice
Participants to wear white T-shirts
The Unity of the Nation Group, which is a non Government organisation based in New Amsterdam, has organised a special Father’s Day Walk around the town of New Amsterdam (NA).
The walk which is dubbed “Father’s Day White T-shirt Walk” will be held today commencing from 05:00 hrs. The event which is being coordinated by sports enthusiast Eli Hazel is open to all especially fathers in Berbice and more so in the New Amsterdam/Canje area.
Hazel, who has been organising similar activities, said that being a father himself he took the opportunity to organise the activity so that persons, especially fathers, can clear their minds from work and to show love and commitment to their children. He said that “the success of a family comes through the dedication of a father and fathers have an important role to play”
The physical instructor informed that walking and physical exercise is important and apart from the significance of the occasion, the walk is being held to encourage persons to exercise. He said many persons, especially fathers, hardly find the time to do exercise. He is encouraging all fathers to grab the opportunity and be a part of the activity.
It was disclosed that the reason participants are being asked to wear white T shirts is because of the colour’s significance to honesty, transparency, commitment, and dedication.
The walk starts from Lot 39 Stanley town. From there, they would proceed along Republic Road turn right into Vryheid Street then left into Angoy’s Avenue, through Tucber Park, left along Winkle Road, right into Princess Elizabeth Road, left along Main Street then back to the point of origin.
At the conclusion of the walk a talk will be given on the role of fathers and special prayers would be recited.
