The Honourable Arthur Chung, Guyana’s first’s President, was last night admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation’s High Dependency Unit (HDU).
Chung, 90, was reportedly admitted for observation. Kaieteur News was unable to confirm the nature of his illness.
Reports state that the former President was rushed to the hospital at around 19:00hours, and admitted shortly after for treatment.
Raymond Arthur Chung was born on January 10th, 1918. He served as the President of Guyana from 1970 to 1980.
He was the first ethnic Chinese (Hakka) president in a non-Asian country. During his time as president, his office was that of a ceremonial head of state, with real power being in the hands of the Prime Minister, Mr. Forbes Burnham.
