76-year-old contractor killed by reversing truck
(Kaieteur News) – A 76-year-old contractor was fatally struck by a reversing truck on Thursday at the Banks DIH Thirst Park location at Industrial Site, Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
The dead man has been identified as Goblin Persaud, who reportedly supplied Banks DIH with plastic bottles.
According to the police, the incident occurred around 14:45hrs while Persaud was walking within the company’s compound.
Police said Persaud walked behind a truck which was reversing and was struck, causing him to fall to the ground. He was subsequently run over by the truck’s rear wheel.
Persons at the scene reportedly began shouting, prompting the truck to stop.
An ambulance was summoned, but Persaud was already dead by the time emergency personnel arrived. A doctor who was attached to the ambulance pronounced him dead at the scene.
The truck driver was arrested and is assisting police with their investigations.
