…as DeAbreu family marks 35 years of growth

(Kaieteur News) – ACADO Guyana Inc.- formerly, DeSinco Trading on Friday commissioned its multimillion-dollar, state-of-the-art distribution centre at Rome along the Heroes Highway.

The 85,000-square-foot facility is being positioned as a major consumer goods distribution and marketing entity that supplies an array of trusted international and regional brands across food and beverage, home care, beauty, personal care, and pharmaceuticals.

The enterprise was originally established in 1992 as DeSinco Trading by Frank DeAbreu and his wife, Deomattie. DeAbreu then a life insurance salesman, pooled his limited resources to pursue small-scale “suitcase trading”-importing items like cricket balls, Jamaican Ambi, and Lander products. Speaking at the ceremony, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Alicia DeAbreu recalled how her parents started the business in a small garage under their home, which quickly expanded directly into their family’s living space. “My parents started the business with the intention of becoming a leading distributor in Guyana,” Alicia shared. “They started very small and humble, with very little financials… They made up for it in integrity and honesty, and these values were their biggest collateral, worth more than any land or building.”

Fourteen years ago, following a difficult personal turning point when her father suffered an accident, Alicia assumed responsibility as CEO, a moment that marked her own baptism by fire into executive leadership. Under her stewardship, the business continually scaled. In January 2015, the enterprise formed a strategic regional alliance by partnering with Caribbean Distribution Partners (CDP), a joint venture between Goddard Enterprises and Agostini Limited. Known for years as DeSinco Limited, the business eventually integrated and officially rebranded to ACADO Guyana in 2025.

The newly commissioned Rome facility represents an 18-month construction effort completed in September 2025. Built to international standards, the hub integrates eco-friendly waste management systems alongside a fully automated Warehouse Management System featuring First Expiry, First Out (FEFO) capabilities,a modern upgrade designed to streamline supply chains right across the country.

Founder Frank DeAbreu, in reflecting on ACADO’s 35-year journey, credited his family, employees, financial institutions, suppliers and business partners for supporting the company’s growth. “It was about people. It was about trust. It was about taking risks when you had little, giving your word and recognising people who believed in you,” Mr. DeAbreu said.

Meanwhile, delivering the feature address at the launch, Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce Susan  Rodrigues highlighted ACADO’s journey from a small family-owned business established by the DeAbreu’s in 1992 to a company with a national footprint and regional partnerships.

“Today is an important day because we are not simply recognising the growth of a company. We are recognising more than three decades of enterprise, resilience, partnership and confidence,” the Minister said. She reflected on Mr. DeAbreu’s account of the company’s humble beginnings and the risks, relationships and determination that shaped its growth, noting that these stories are important lessons for Guyana’s younger generation.

Minister Rodrigues noted the new facility comes at a time of significant economic expansion and emphasised that Guyana’s transformation extends beyond the energy sector.

“Economic transformation is not only about large infrastructure projects or the energy sector. It is also about building the productive capacity of Guyanese businesses, strengthening our distribution and logistics networks, expanding manufacturing and services, creating jobs, and ensuring that businesses have the infrastructure and partnerships required to compete.”

She also highlighted the importance of regional partnerships, pointing to ACADO’s collaboration with the Agostini Group as an example of how Guyanese family-owned businesses can leverage regional expertise, networks and capabilities to expand their operations.

Minister Rodrigues on behalf of His Excellency, President Mohamed Irfaan Ali and the Government of Guyana, commended ACADO for its investment in its workforce and its corporate social responsibility initiatives, while reaffirming Government’s commitment to creating an environment in which businesses can invest, innovate, expand and create opportunities. She congratulated the DeAbreu family, the Agostini Group, ACADO’s management and staff, and all partners involved in the company’s development, wishing the company continued growth and success as it enters this new chapter.
