(Kaieteur News) – A 26-year-old shopkeeper from Ann’s Grove, East Coast Demerara, has been sentenced to three years and five months in prison after he was found guilty of possessing narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
Ezekiel Lewis, called “Bell”, of Lot 12 Ann’s Grove, was convicted on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, following a trial at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Teriq Mohamed.
Lewis had been arrested on October 8, 2025, and charged two days later under Section 5(1)(a)(i) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act, Chapter 10:10.
He first appeared before the court on October 10, 2025, where the charge was read to him. Lewis pleaded not guilty, and the matter proceeded to trial.
At the conclusion of the case, the court found him guilty and imposed a prison sentence of three years and five months.
