– Report says country offers greater security for solo women travellers and cruise visitors

(Kaieteur News) – Guyana has been named among the top 20 safest travel destinations in the Americas and Caribbean, according to a report by travel publication Travel and Tour World, which highlighted the country as an increasingly secure option for women travelling alone and cruise holidaymakers.

The report placed Guyana alongside destinations such as Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, Turks and Caicos, Greenland and Suriname, noting that these countries are providing visitors with greater confidence, comfort and peace of mind at a time when safety has become a major consideration for international travellers.

According to the publication, the rankings are particularly significant for solo female travellers, a rapidly growing segment of the global tourism market, as well as cruise passengers seeking destinations perceived as safe and welcoming.

The report noted that the selected countries stand out for offering a secure environment that allows travellers to explore with greater assurance while enjoying cultural, ecological and leisure experiences.

For Guyana, the recognition comes as the country continues to market itself as an eco-tourism destination, promoting its vast rainforests, waterfalls, wildlife and Indigenous heritage to attract visitors from North America, Europe and other international markets.

While the report did not provide individual country rankings, Guyana’s inclusion among the top 20 destinations places it alongside several established tourism markets in the region.

The publication said travellers are increasingly prioritising destinations that combine unique experiences with a strong sense of personal security, particularly women travelling independently and cruise visitors seeking reassurance when planning their vacations.

Early last month, Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Susan Rodrigues had announced that Guyana welcomed 39,484 visitors in March 2026, describing the increase as another positive sign that the country’s tourism strategy is delivering results.

She revealed, according to a Department of Public Information releass that the steady rise in visitor arrivals demonstrates the continued growth and resilience of Guyana’s tourism and hospitality sector despite ongoing global uncertainties.

“We’re extremely excited by the positive increase in visitor arrival numbers almost every month of the year. This, to us, is a demonstration that our strategy is working [and] the tourism and hospitality industry is thriving,” she noted.

Minister Rodrigues added that Guyana continues to stand out as a resilient tourism destination because of its rich culture and authentic experiences.

“So even in the face of the war in Iran and all of the other global challenges that the world is facing today, Guyana remains a strong, resilient destination deeply rooted in our culture and our authentic experiences,” the minister said.

She also highlighted an increase in domestic travel, noting that more Guyanese are exploring destinations, particularly in the interior.

Several interior lodges have reported growing numbers of both international and local visitors in recent months.

The minister said the continued growth in tourism arrivals is providing a major boost to businesses operating within the hospitality and tourism industries.
