(Kaieteur News) – Michael Embrack, called “Duck-man,” 39, of Fort Ordnance Village, East Canje, and Rada Corlette, called “Vanessa,” 36, of Fryish Village, Corentyne, were charged in relation to robbery when they appeared before Magistrate Michelle Matthias at the Albion Magistrate’s Court.
Together, they were accused of robbing Parsram Arnold, a 32-year-old man, of Bun Bush Dam, East Canje Berbice, on September 20, 2026.
Arnold was reportedly robbed of $768,000 during the incident.
The charge of robbery under arms was read to both accused, who were not required to plead to the indictable offence. Bail was objected to by the prosecution, which was upheld by Magistrate Matthias, who then remanded the pair to prison.
The matter has been transferred to the Reliance Magistrate’s Court for October 21.
The victim, who is a chef, disclosed following the ordeal last month that he was asleep with his seven-year-old daughter and eight-year-old son around 3:00 hours when he was choked out of his sleep. Three men, none of whom were masked, were observed beside him, carrying guns and cutlasses.
He said his son was dealt a blow to his head by one of the men as they demanded he hand over money. A cutlass was reportedly pressed to the neck of his daughter as the men repeatedly threatened to harm them if Arnold did not give them the money.
Arnold complied and offered the bandits money he had kept as donations for religious purposes, but the men insisted he hand them more, forcing his son to his vehicle where they would retrieve a further $40,000 from the man’s wallet.
They then reportedly proceeded to the family’s shop in front of the house, and made off with that day’s sales and several items from the shop.
In addition to taking pieces of jewelry belonging to himself and children, the family was also reportedly tied up and beaten. Arnold told reporters that throughout the ordeal, he pleaded with the men to spare his children, but do with him what they please, as the men were threatening to also kill them.
After ransacking the bedrooms in search of valuables, the men reportedly escaped with $375,000 in cash, five mobile phones, jewellery and other valuables.
The family was subsequently taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital for medical attention, and was discharged, but the incident, according to the man, has caused him and his family profound trauma.
