(Kaieteur News) – David Ramphal, called “Tampoo,” of Belvedere, Corentyne, and Dedesh Naris, a resident of Albion Front, Corentyne, made a joint appearance before Magistrate Michelle Matthias at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court earlier this week, to answer to charges related to firearm, ammonium, and narcotics.
The charges include possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking, contrary to Section 5(1)(a) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act; possession of a firearm without a licence; and possession of ammunition without a licence, contrary to the Firearms Act.

Based on reports, on October 12, 2026, police ranks, acting on information, journeyed to No. 1 Road, Corentyne Berbice, where they encountered four men travelling with two motorcycles, one bearing registration number CS 7869, and the other unregistered.
During a search, ranks discovered a 12-gauge shotgun in the possession of one of the men, who was carrying a black haversack. Eighteen 12-gauge shotgun cartridges and 15 small zip-lock bags containing leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis were also found.
The suspected cannabis was weighed and amounted to 25.3 grams.
The other two men encountered during the operation were also initially detained as police conducted their investigations.
